I always get questions of how I remove my underarm hair (esp. on formspring). If you didn't know, I hate having hair on most places of my body except my head? and eyebrows and idk! Well, now I am gonna tell you how I got rid of my underarm hair!
I always had mega problems with underarm hair cause I get super conscious of my armpits and there was a period I refused to wear sleeveless cause I thought that my underarm hair was toooo obvious and my pits were like "darker" in colour than the rest of my skin. And when I take photos, especially self-shots, you sort of accidentally expose your pits and I get very insecure so I end up deleting the photo! #truestory
I went through the phase of "should I shave/wax/pluck?". AND TRUST ME, I TRIED ALL THE METHODS.
my conclusions of the three:
shaving:
you've heard the true horror stories of how shaving, which is the easiest way out cause you just swipe the shaver across your skin, and I'm sure its is the last thing you want! The hair grows out much thicker (which is obviously not what you want) and how when stubs come out, your skin gets prickly and is no longer nice to touch.
waxing:
I did the DIY ones and ended up making a mess cause the excess wax left on my skin is sooo hard to remove and the remover they provide is definitely not enough! Also tried the professional kind at waxing parlours. They do a clean job but while waxing, they try to sweet talk you into buying some mask or idk what for your newly-waxed skin and blah blah blah which is pretty irritating to me. Also, you can't expect me to go to the waxing parlour almost every week or fortnightly right to get rid of the unwanted hair which keeps growing and growing??? And for my whole life?? HELLO?!
plucking:
yes, it doesn't make the hair grow out thicker, supposedly. But its tiring. There are probably a few hundred strands of hair just on my pits alone. I don't have the patience to slowly go pluck one by one while straining my eyes. And you gotta make sure you pull out the black head. and after one or two days, you gotta pluck. its a continuous thing? Like every time you bath, you gotta grab a damn tweezer and start plucking.
thats why, when I found GloAesthetics, I was superrrr happy!! And Patricia from GloAesthetics saved me from one of my biggest problems in my whole life! #truestory
The treatment I used is called the Sharplight Formax Plus. (Painless Hair Removal) (p.s. this treatment has been featured in magazines such as Bazaar, ELLE, Vogue, InStyle, Marie Claire etc.)
"GloAesthetics is the first in Singapore to offers painless permanent hair removal using U.S. FDA cleared medical aesthetics system Sharplight™ Formax Plus™ and Cutera ProWave ™ to permanently remove unwanted hair.
Area to be treated include:
• face • upperlips • beard • chin • underarms • chest • back • abdomen • brazilian • •boyzilian • arms • legs •"
And Ive tried the machine and its AMAZING. It's really PAINLESS. You just need to wear a set of goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light the machines gives out when "zapping" your under wanted hair.
After undergoing ONE treatment, I was super happy cause my unwanted hair were all gone for at least one week (I finally had hairless pits for the first time!!), and when they grew out, it was MUCH finer and not as thick and the hair growth was much less!!
and after the SECOND treatment, the hair growth at my pits were reduced by more than half! AND of course, my skin there were probably up to three shades lighter, which is the colour of my normal skin!
HOWEVER, depending on your hair type and stuff, it depends on the individual how many treatments are needed to completely remove the hair! And results may vary slightly cause some people are more/less hairy!
Below is a video of the treatment (done on a male):
